The Exhibition addresses the importance of women’s activism in the LGBT+ movement, and reveals the historical struggle to win ordinary human rights.  Using personal histories, archive photography and news reports, extraordinary stories of love, endurance and solidarity are honoured and acknowledged.

ANGIE’S STORY

Discussing her 38 year long participation with Gay’s the Words Lesbian Discussion Group having taken over running Gay’s the Word Lesbian Discussion Group after Amanda Russell moved to Hebden Bridge. Angie discusses the value and importance of the group in the past and today.

FRANKIE’S STORY

For Frankie, the move towards Women’s Liberation came with a realisation that the oppression of lesbians was coupled with the oppression of all women.She talks about how she feels disconnected from many modern-day forms of feminism, which fail to take into account all oppression.

Opening Doors London (ODL) is the biggest charity in the UK to provide information and support services specifically for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT+) people over 50. We exist to enable LGBT+ people over 50 to live full and vibrant lives free from loneliness, isolation, and discrimination. ODL is a membership organisation offering over 40 groups and social activities every month across London. We offer active befriending relationships, which pair up LGBT+ people over 50 who are feeling socially isolated with a volunteer for regular social contact. We also offer training and consultancy for health and social care professionals to confidently meet the specific needs of older LGBT+ people in care.
